Tadej Pogacar vs Matteo Jorgenson: Stage 7 “Water Bottle Incident” Tour de France 2025
The new feud between UAE’s Tadej Pogačar and Visma-Lease a bike’s Matteo Jorgenson came into focus during stage 7 of the 2025 Tour de France. Tensions were clearly high and increasing between Pogacar and his big rivals for the Maillot Jaune, the entire Visma-Lease a Bike team.
The most recent incident in stage 7’s late feed zone has sparked significant controversy.

On the first pass of the Mûr-de-Bretagne, approaching their soigneur in the feed zone, Visma’s Wout Van Aert and Matteo Jorgenson rode to Pogacar’s right blocking his access to the feed zone. The world champion got blocked trying to move right to get his own bottle and put his right hand on Jorgenson’s back appearing to push the American. The move caused both to miss their bottles.
Fueled by the anger from the “feed zone clash” Pogacar attacked on the final ascent of the Mûr-de-Bretagne easily beating Visma’s leader Jonas Vingegaard to win the stage and reclaim the race lead.
Was it “teamwork strategy” or just “a crowded feed zone mishap”? Despite the efforts of both teams to downplay the incident, the controversy remains. The cycling world will be watching closely for mounting tensions in future races. |
